 Minutes from the 2006 Brannen Family Reunion Business Meeting

The Fifty Eighth Annual Brannen Reunion was held on September 23, 2006 at 10:30 am. It was a pleasure to visit with each other and to see the different items members had brought until time for the meeting to start.

Wayne Brannen, President, called the meeting to order and gave a warm welcome. John Brannen Purser gave the devotional. He spoke about the Brannen families being scattered now and how good it is to be together as a family. In II Timothy Chapter 1 he told about where Paul said, “Be not ashamed of the Gospel. We need the Spirit stirred up in us. The Brannen family needs to stir up memories. We should never be ashamed of our Heritage. He gave the invocation praying that God would continue to bless the Brannen Family and then led us in singing “Amazing Grace”.

Wayne Brannen presided over the business meeting. Geneva Brannen read the minutes, and they were approved as read.

A discussion was held about our meeting here next year since Bethlehem has gone up from $100.00 to $200.00 for the use of the fellowship hall. Henry Banks said he was a deacon, and he would talk to the Deacons and see if they would consider letting us meet for less or nothing, since he and Lucille are members of the church. He would let us know about this. We will continue to make a donation to the church. A motion was made and seconded that we continue to meet here even if we have to pay $200.00.

Certificates were given to the following members: Lucille DeLoach for being the oldest member present, Haven Sawyer for being the youngest member present, Ralph Akins for traveling the greatest distance for the reunion.

Officers were elected to serve for the next two years. They are: Linda Futch-President;
Shirley Jean Brannen Collins-Vice President; Geneva Brannen- Secretary-Treasurer

A silent memorial was held for the following deceased members: J. Claude Moxley and Lynda Kay Waters Brannen.

Mary Sue Smith read a report from Smith Banks, since he was unable to be with us. This was about the history for our book. She and Randy Brannen are working with Smith on this project. Randy Brannen gave our program: He had a chart on the wall and he told how to use software to trace generations of Brannen’s, family trees, official records, etc. He said amazing things could be done on the computer. Our personal Family history must be accurate. Bible records are important. He said Smith’s files need going through. We appreciate so much all that Randy is doing so that we can have our book that we have wanted for a long time.

Wayne encouraged everyone to update their family history, and also those that can help with Smith’s files. Wayne Brannen thanked everyone who had helped with the Reunion. He gave the benediction, and we adjourned for lunch.
